Jemima Maxwell was born in Downpatrick, Co Down, and grew up just outside of London, and now divides her time between Roundstone, Connemara, Ireland and Bath, UK.
She is primarily interested in how colour and tone creates space and depth within a composition. Working with the challenges of surface and depth, texture and light, Jemima applies a variety of techniques to apply oil paint.
Her interest and education in art started early through the influence of her mother, a painter who studied under Peter Lanyon, Terry Frost and William Scott. At thirty, Jemima decided to paint full-time and received formal training in painting under Robin Child, who is distinguished for his lecturing, teaching, and commentary on modern art.
Jemima first exhibited in London in 2000, and since then, has been commissioned for numerous private and commercial collections. She is represented by Stronach Gallery Co Mayo.
